40 Winks was once a popular name for motels, before they were all renamed Chain Motel, and rightly so. On vacation, you don't really want to do anything in a motel other than shower with some smelly but attractively wrapped Cashmere Bouquet, steal an ashtray, and sleep just enough to prevent you from driving off the road.

I had to drive all the way thru Kansas one Saturday without any 40 Winks because all the motels were full of partying ranchers!
